“No Logo” Response

            For years I have thought only good things about Nike, since they seem to make a very good product and have so many influential people in their ads.  They always seemed to me to be a very big company that cares about the people of the world, but I don’t feel that I can say that after watching the video clip “No Logo”.  I have heard numerous stories of Nike donating to charities and but now I can’t help but think that they were just doing things like that to try and take away from what really is going on with the company.  I can’t believe that a huge billion dollar company would have to resort to such desperate measures to make their product.  Companies today are so greedy today that it is ridiculous, I mean Nike is already huge and I’m sure that all the owners, investors and people associated with the company are, but they have to have women and children from another country work in bad conditions for next to nothing to make even more money.  It’s just not right, I am sure that the company could afford to pay those same people a lot more and gave them better working conditions, and the company would still be huge and wealthy but they won’t do it.  It is unbelievable how greedy people today are.

When I read this essay I really agreed with what he had to say. I think that Iyer was exactly right in pretty much all aspects of what he had to say. I feel that he is right, the world really is changing into America in a lot of ways and America is changing into the rest of the world. When I think about it, it is amazing how things have changed over the years. Today, you see Chinese restaurants almost everywhere, and there is even A fast food Mexican place where you can get tacos. It is amazing how much America has adapted into other countries when you think about it. America really isn’t just the American people and the American way anymore.

Today, in America it is not uncommon to see people of different races when you go out. Years ago it was uncommon to see different ethnicities, and now it would be uncommon not to see different ethnicities. The entire way of American life is adapting to the different cultures being brought in to America. Although many people are coming to American from different countries, not everybody can. That is why other countries are adapting and becoming more like America. Many countries today are using aspects of American culture in there everyday lives now. America isn’t the only country though all countries are using things from other countries in one way or another.

Globalization Blog

After reading the text in Friedman’s Super Story I felt it was really strong writing.  There are many compelling arguments that he makes in his writing that made me realize just how true and right he really is.  Even though I am still young, I have noticed all of these changes in the way the world operates today.  When I was younger it was not very common that you saw somebody talking on a cell phone, but today people talk to anybody anywhere in a matter of seconds.  By either computer or phone, you can get in touch with other people, money and economics.  The world has evolved so vastly over the years, possibilities of what people can do now are endless.

            Now if people can do such incredible things, just imagine what a superpower such as the U.K. can do with these newly developed forms of communication and technology.  Although it may be amazing, it is also scary in my perspective, especially when all of these things no matter how great they may be can be turned on us.  They way that the world has evolved can either do great good, or great evil.  Friedman calls this new age globalization, and says that it has three balances.  These balances are, the balance of power between nation-states, the balance between nation states and global markets, and the balance of individuals and nation states.  The key term is balances, and if one superpower was to turn all of these balances in there favor they could become too powerful which could be bad for everybody.  Bottom line is it is hard to say whether this new age is good or bad for us and I think that only time will tell.
